COVID-19 has had an impact on all our lives.

We are asked to stay home, but can you imagine what it would be like to not have a safe home?

This is the situation for women and their children across Victoria who are made homeless by poverty and domestic abuse. Please donate now to help us continue to provide safe and secure homes for more than 230 women and children around Melbourne. Many of these women have lost jobs and income during the crisis. This means they are struggling to pay for food and rent.

Secure homes for women are now more important than ever. Women are at the forefront of this crisis. Our health services are dominated by women doing chronically undervalued work. Women are over-represented in low paying and casual employment in industries that have been hardest hit by this pandemic. It is also proven that family violence escalates during a crisis.

WPI has 17 new homes under construction now and another 13 are set to get underway. We are determined to provide this housing as soon as possible and change the lives of women and children at risk of homelessness.

Will you donate today to make this possible?

Creating new beginnings for women

Women’s Property Initiatives creates new beginnings for women and children at risk of homelessness by providing permanent and affordable homes, access to support networks and ongoing advocacy.

We are a not-for-profit, community housing provider founded in 1996 to meet the housing needs of single women and single mothers and their children.

Affordable, appropriate and secure housing is a basic human need and right. It is not being adequately provided by the public or private sectors. WPI seeks to provide permanent homes that change a woman’s future and help to break the inter-generational cycle of poverty. We can envisage a time when no Victorian woman is homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

WPI believes in housing first. We know that without housing, access to support services, employment, education and productive participation in society are extremely difficult. That’s why we focus on getting women and women led families, into stable homes first, where they can address the other challenges in their lives

  • Launch of the WPI Foundation

An inaugural donation from the Lions Club Melbourne Host has launched the WPI Foundation.

WPI is seeking further philanthropic investment in the WPI Foundation. Capital accumulated in the Foundation will be used to build more affordable housing for disadvantaged women and their families.

The new Foundation is a discrete fund established under WPI’s Gift Fund, which provides Tax Deductibility Status. This enables donations to be claimed as tax deductions under Australian tax rulings.
