Women’s Property Initiatives is delighted to announce the appointment of Roberta Buchanan as CEO, effective from 8 April, 2024.

WPI’s Chair, Katie Struthers, said that Roberta was chosen to lead WPI into the future after an extensive and extremely competitive selection process. “She brings with her decades of experience in community housing, both here and in the UK, and is strongly committed to changing the lives of vulnerable women and children through secure and affordable housing.”

Roberta has an MBA and a discipline in Housing Studies and has extensive experience in working with boards and teams to execute strategic plans. Prior to joining WPI, Roberta was the Executive Director, Housing Solutions at Launch Housing and the Chief Operating Officer at Housing Choices Australia.  An advocate for community housing, Roberta is a board member and secretary at Community Housing Industry of Victoria.

“Roberta is well known to many of WPI’s network of partners and supporters, has established relationships across the housing sector, and will work with the Board and the very capable and passionate team at WPI to build on the legacy established by retiring CEO, Jeanette Large. Roberta and Jeanette will work together over a period of weeks to ensure a smooth transition. Jeanette will start her well-deserved retirement on 29 April. We thank her for all that she has done to lead and grow WPI and her tireless efforts to improve affordable housing solutions for women. Her contribution is immeasurable.

We warmly welcome Roberta, who was drawn to the position at WPI because of its focus on addressing the gender inequality that limits women’s access to affordable housing.” Ms Struthers said.

Commenting on her appointment, Ms Buchanan said “I have always admired the work that Jeanette and the amazing team at WPI do. I am looking forward to working with the Board and the team to continue to build on this impressive work, and realize the housing growth ambitions that will change the lives of women and women led families who need access to affordable, safe and secure housing.”
