Property Industry Foundation’s Friends of the Foundation was held on  Thursday 11 May 2023 where Monica Fontaine from Built, the Chair of Property Industry Foundation’s Haven House Committee VIC, shared the exciting news that ground is about to be broken on The Nest site in Shepparton.

The Nest is a partnership between the Property Industry Foundation, Women’s Property Initiatives and The Bridge Youth Services to build 3 x two-bedroom homes where young mums (up to 25 years old) can live independently with their child or children.

These young mums can live in the homes for up to five years supported by The Bridge Youth Services. As well as providing stability, support and safety, they will be able to establish a rental history to help them with future access in the private rental market.

The project’s building partner, Modular Spaces, was announced on the night.

Tim Slattery, Property Industry Foundation’s Chair Board of Advisors VIC, said “The Property Industry Foundation fully underwrites each Haven Project, so we know when we start a project, we can guarantee that it will be finished. We raise funds for the entire build through diverse ways such as our Steps for Homeless Youth and Tour de PIF events, our industry partners and well as key funders.

For Haven House Shepparton, our key funders to date are The Danks Trust, ISPT, Mercy Foundation, Homes for Homes and Women’s Property Initiatives through their own generous supporters. It is wonderful to have this support from the industry and the greater community on a whole.”

WPI recently participated in a planting day on the site along with representatives of Property Industry Foundation and The Bridge Youth Services. Construction will commence very soon!

WPI’s contribution to the build has been generously funded by The Felton Bequest, The Wood Foundation and the Jack and Ethel Goldin Foundation.
