A large family home was delivered in Melbourne’s west last week that is truly the product of effective collaboration and generosity.

We are extremely grateful to the Scalzo Family, who are long term supporters of WPI, for donating the land which provided the catalyst for this project and to Christine Gilbertson who made a generous contribution that helped to bring this home to life. It sits within a growth precinct, west of Melbourne and is perfectly positioned to provide a new beginning for a vulnerable family in a vibrant new community. It is now home to a mother and her six children who have been living in overcrowded conditions in transitional housing. They were beyond thrilled with this beautiful new home and to be close to family and the school which many of the children attend that caters for special needs.

The home was built by Dennis Family Homes in partnership with the The Victorian Homeless Fund. WPI is very fortunate to have a wonderful partnership with the Victorian Homeless Fund, a dedicated group of volunteers who have not wavered in their focus on building homes for people in need. They also arranged to furnish this home beautifully and the family were overwhelmed with the beautiful bedrooms and living spaces. We thank Dennis Family Homes for their significant contribution and their efforts to make this home so inviting and welcoming. It has been named Margot Rottem House in honour of a founding member of The Victorian Homeless Fund.

The project was also generously supported by Lendlease Future Steps Foundation and ISPT. These contributions were invaluable.

To all of the generous individuals and organisations who donated time, energy, expertise and product to assist with this build – thank you. You are changing the lives of this very grateful family.
